Punta of the Capelinhos
In the western end of the Island of Faial is one of the principal tourist attractions of its unusual landscape, which contrasts with the exuberant vegetation of the rest of the island. From the Punta of the Capelinhos it is possible to observe what remains of the last volcanic eruptions in Faial. The Volcano of the Capelinhos initiates its activity between 1957/58, adding new territory to the island, formed by the sedimentation of its ashes. In an arid landscape frequently associated with a lunar landscape, where you finds the old Faro partially buried in the ashes. The history of the eruption of the volcano and its consequences in the zone is illustrated in a small photographic exhibition.
