Central Group dos Açores
The principal islands are: Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico and Faial. The islands are mountainous and rely on in its interior important extensions of forest, besides several waterfalls and thermal waters; on its coasts, it arranges the existence of very beautiful beaches and numerous ports of fishing.
Terceira constitutes the most developed of the five main islands due to the existence of a military North American base in Lajes, from the World War II-, and is famous for its bullfighting holiday (slightly common in Portugal): the tourada da cordá.
Graciosa is one of the calmest islands of The Azores, which land devotes to the agriculture and the vineyards, and in that still(yet) they can turn cars thrown(shot) by oxen.
São Jorge is a long and narrow island, where the Flemish (Andalusia gipsy) colonists established throughout the XVth century, and that is characterized by the existence of its fajâs, languages of land created by the collapse of some of its steep cliffs.
The island of Pico is considered to be one of the most beautiful islands of The Azores. Placed place right where the African continent plate separates of the American, and it is named by a volcano of the same name. Pico emerges from the sea up to a height of 2.351 meters, turning into the highest mountain of Portugal.
Faial was founded by Flemish (Andalusia gipsy) colonists in the XVth century and obliged stop of ancient ships and, more recently, of the hydroplanes that cross the Atlantic Ocean. At present it is a fertile, famous island and soft climate for the abundance of sports ships and the countless hydrangeas that characterize its landscape.
